T.J. Lane, the shooter who killed three students at Chardon High School in northeastern Ohio in February 2012, was defiant and wore a smug smile during his sentencing Monday. During the proceedings, Lane gave the middle finger and wore a white T-shirt with the handwritten word “KILLER” emblazoned on it.

Lane pleaded guilty to the murders of Russell King Jr., 17; Daniel Parmertor, 16; and Demetrius Hewlin, 16, whom he killed when he opened fire inside the school’s cafeteria on Feb. 27.

An Ohio judge sentenced Lane to life in prison without the possibility of parole and said his remorse was "lacking."

Family members of the three slain students and two others who were seriously injured in the shooting had harsh words for Lane.

A family member of Nick Walczak, 17, who was paralyzed from the waist down after being shot, suggested they would want to take a crack at Lane if there weren’t officers in the courtroom.

“You are [lucky] there are so many police in this room. You can smile all you want,” the family member told Lane, according to the Twitter account for 19 Action News in Cleveland. “You don’t know kind. You are evil.”

The mother of Parmertor said the 16-year-old was “her baby."

She said, “T.J. Lane doesn’t deserve respect. I want him to feel my anger toward him. I am in pain every minute of every day. I am so mad. I cry every day.”

She told Lane that he was “a weak, pathetic, vile coward,” according to the 19 Action News Twitter account.
