The “Charmed” reboot didn’t initially get a warm welcome from the original cast, but it seems at least one of the stars is coming around. Shannen Doherty had previously criticized the reboot, but she now says she has high hopes for the CW series. She couldn’t speak to the opinions of her former co-stars, though.

“Everybody has their reasons, and I get all sides of it,” she told ET Online. “Just, I can only speak for myself… I think I’m excited. So I think it’s great.”

Sarah Jeffery, who is playing one of the sisters in the “Charmed” reboot, was thrilled to see the actress’ words of support. “This is really special... Thank-you for trail-blazing and making this all possible... grateful @DohertyShannen,” she tweeted Sunday.

Doherty played Prue for three seasons on The WB’s “Charmed.” She was killed off and replaced with Rose McGowan, who starred alongside original cast members Holly Marie Combs and Alyssa Milano through the eighth and final season. Most of the actresses made it clear that they weren’t happy that they were excluded from the reboot.

Milano recently noted that while she supports the effort, it would’ve been nice to be involved. Combs has been particularly vocal about the fact that she didn’t appreciate not being asked to take part in the reboot.

“Let me say first that I appreciate the jobs and opportunities the Charmed reboot has created,” Combs wrote in response to a journalist on Twitter. “But I will never understand what is fierce, funny, or feminist in creating a show that basically says the original actresses are too old to do a job they did 12 years ago. I hope the new show is far better than the marketing so the true legacy does remain. Reboots fair better when they honor the original as opposed to taking shots at the original.”

Those “shots” were supposedly in the “Charmed” reboot’s first official description. Many felt that the CW calling the show a “fierce, funny, feminist reboot of the original series,” implied that the original wasn’t any of those things.

Doherty originally took offense to the marketing as well. “Their wording is terrible and a bit offensive,” she tweeted in January. “But, everyone makes mistakes. Perhaps with the backlash they will be more thoughtful in future.”

It seems Doherty is over the wording and has moved on to supporting the reboot.

“I think it’s great. I think it’s awesome,” she added while at the Stand Up To Cancer telecast last week. “I think second lives are amazing, so I’m all for it… I’m happy to see that a show, that back then was all about strong women who supported and loved each other, is now coming back again in this day and age. It’s about female empowerment again — not that that’s something new. Charmed originally was that too. But I think it’s wonderful, you know? And it’s providing a lot of jobs for people, and I honestly, I just wish them well. And I hope that everyone just gives them a chance.”

The reboot’s stars have previously made it clear that the door is open for any of the original cast members to guest star, but it’s also obvious that the writers are putting their own mark on the show.

The sisters are Latinx, so much of the show’s magical elements are inspired by Brujería, Latinx witchcraft, rather than the Salem witches. Even their powers will be different in some cases. While the youngest witch was clairvoyant in the original, she’ll instead get the power to hear people’s thoughts (which stems from her empathetic nature). Plus, the introduction of the third sister brings a new mystery.

The new “Charmed” premieres Sunday, Oct. 14 on The CW.
