Sarah Jones, teacher and captain of the Cincinnati Bengals Cheerleading squad appeared in court Monday to face charges of first degree sexual abuse. Jones pleaded not guilty to sexually abusing a student and unlawful use of electronic means to induce a minor to engage in sexual or prohibited activities.

According to the Washington Post, the former cheerleading captain and 26-year-old English teacher is accused of having sex with a 16-year-old high school football player on numerous occasions. Jones resigned from her teaching position at Kentucky's Dixie Heights High in November.

Sarah Jones' mother, 55-year-old Cheryl Jones, a principal at Twenhofel Middle School, was also indicted with her daughter. Cheryl Jones is accused of tampering with evidence, and entered a not guilty plea as well.

Both Sarah and Cheryl Jones have been ordered to disable text messaging from their mobile phones, as well as not make contact with the alleged victim.

Sarah has maintained her innocence, said Sarah and Cheryl Jones' lawyer, Charles T. Lester Jr. The indictment of her mother is completely baseless. Cheryl Jones did not tamper with evidence.

In an odd twist, the family of the alleged victim is supporting the shamed teacher. ABC is reporting that while the victim's family supports Sarah Jones, the state will still prosecute the case due to sufficient proof.

The families are friends, Lester said of the victim's relatives support.

Sarah and Cheryl Jones will go to trial on June 27 where they can face up to five years in prison for each charge.
