KEY POINTS

  • Andres Christensen prefers to stay with Chelsea like Antonio Rudiger
  • Thomas Tuchel is high on Christensen, who fits his 3-4-3 formation
  • Christensen has come into his own under Tuchel after being overlooked by Frank Lampard

Andreas Christensen has been a first-team regular for Chelsea since Thomas Tuchel took over, and his future with the Blues looks promising.

Although nothing is set in stone at the moment, the 25-year-old admitted that he prefers to stay at Stamford Bridge.

The Danish player is another player on the Blues' side in the final year of his contract.

But given that he has been a vital part of Tuchel’s 3-4-3 formation in recent matches, it appears Chelsea has all the reason to tie him down to a long-term deal.

“It’s hard to know how things will end up,” Christensen said via the Chelsea website. “There is a lot of talk. I will not say too much, but I think it looks good.”

But perhaps the most important comment that the Danish center-back may have given is that he is happy with his status at Stamford Bridge.

“I am happy to be at Chelsea,” he quipped.

Considering he has been utilized more compared to the time of Frank Lampard, Christensen has responded to the chance given by Tuchel.

“Andreas has been very strong since day one, can play in all three positions in the defense and he plays with a lot of confidence,” Tuchel was quoted as saying after Chelsea’s 3-0 away win at Tottenham last month.

“We rely fully on him and he’s doing very well so far and it is everybody’s target that he continues like this,” the Blues manager added.

Christensen is the second promising young player that will be keenly monitored after this season. The other is Antonio Rudiger, who is also on an expiring deal.

As mentioned in a previous post, the 28-year-old also prefers to stay at Stamford Bridge.

He is aware of the growing interest from multiple clubs but opts to fulfill his current obligation with Chelsea before thinking about what lies ahead.

Several teams such as Bayern Munich are interested in the German player.

Rudiger is seeking a deal worth £200,000-a-week ($276,000). This looms as a stumbling block considering the Blues are only offering £125,000 ($170,000)-a-week.
