Chelsea News: Willian Thumbs Down Two-Year Deal Anew, Future Not Looking Bright
KEY POINTS
- Willian thumbs down the latest offer from Chelsea
- Willian still wants a three-year deal
- Willian has multiple offers on the table, including two Premier League teams
Chelsea F.C. has pitched a new offer to Willian Borges da Silva ahead of their Champions League clash this coming weekend against Bayern Munich. The new deal is allegedly another two-year contract and the Brazilian unsurprisingly thumbed it down anew.
It appears Willian is standing pat on his decision of wanting a three-year deal. At 31, seeking a long-term pact at this point in his career is understandable. It could be his last chance at a big deal and Willian wants to secure his financial future.
With the latest development, it remains to be seen if things will change after Saturday. Chelsea will try to overcome a 3-0 first leg home defeat against Der FCB but Frank Lampard is left in a bind. Several players are injured, leaving him in a crisis.
Among those questionable aside from Willian include Christian Pulisic, Cesar Azpilicueta, Pedro and Billy Gilmour. Out due to suspension for the Blues will be Jorginho and Marcos Alonso, Goal reported.
Willian is down with the Achilles injury but is hoping to recover in time for the Champions League clash. The same holds for Pulisic who went down with a hamstring injury in their FA Cup final with Arsenal last weekend.
In a previous post, it was reported that Lampard knows he can only do so much to try and convince Willian to stay. He admits that while he has held a good relationship with the Brazilian, he cannot control whatever path that the 31-year- old decides to follow.
"I know the situation at the club’s end. I have a great relationship with Willian, but I don’t actually know what the decision is," Lampard said.
Even before the COVID-19 pandemic, Willian made it clear that he was looking for a three-year deal. Despite a new pitch, the Blues have not changed their stance of a two-year contract. Unless something happens in the coming weeks, the Brazilian is likely to move out of Stamford Bridge.
Willian is not short of suitors. According to his agent Kia Joorabchian, the Brazilian has two concrete offers from Premier League clubs. Aside from that, he has big offers from an MLS team and two teams from Europe. Willian is expected to decide the final game of the season.
