Chelsea Rumors: Blues To Take Advantage Of 'Frustrated' Manchester City Star's Possible Transfer
KEY POINTS
- Chelsea boss Frank Lampard wants to improve the team's defense following numerous conceded goals
- Chelsea scouts are reportedly planning to recruit Man City defender John Stones
- Stones has become frustrated over his lack of playing time, which Chelsea may take advantage of
Chelsea is likely to pursue Manchester City star John Stones this summer after he admitted to being frustrated over his lack of playing time under Pep Guardiola, a report said.
Following a series of conceded goals, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard admitted that he is fully aware of what the team lacks on the defensive end. In a recent interview, Lampard candidly spoke about their shortcomings and confirmed that they will be looking to up their defensive game.
“We have a coaching staff as a group which we work very hard to try to be as defensively good as we can be, of course. There are lots of mitigating circumstances around that, we’ve conceded too many goals, I’m very aware of it,” Lampard said (via Yahoo! Sports).
It seems Lampard and his scouts are wasting no time in trying to find the perfect aid for their diminishing defense. According to Football Insider, Chelsea’s recruitment team has discussed a move for Man City defender Stones.
As Lampard weighs his chances of landing a solid defender this summer, Stones reportedly appears to be included in Chelsea’s transfer wish list. The spot Stones will be filling in for the Blues is the center-back position, with Antonio Rudiger likely to be made available for transfer.
Stones still has two years left on his current City deal. But prior to Chelsea, he has already been linked to a move to Arsenal.
The 26-year-old has not managed to much playing time under Guardiola this season. In fact, Stones has started just two matches for City since the Premier League restart. This has led to reports claiming Chelsea is likely to take advantage of the situation.
Though Stones has not confirmed that he will entertain any concrete offers from other clubs, he did admit to being frustrated over lack of game time ahead of the FA Cup semi-final defeat to Arsenal on July 15.
“It has been really frustrating from a personal perspective. Injury re-occurrence, then little things like getting injured a few days in after lockdown. It’s been frustrating. I’ve tried to stay positive, and be ready when I’m called upon, and I feel I have been,” Stones told Sky Sports.
“Coming back after lockdown, getting fit again, and then coming back in and playing against some tough opponents,” he added.
Aside from Stones, Chelsea has also been urged to sign Atletico Madrid star Jan Oblak. Following the Blues’ defeat to Liverpool on Thursday, former Reds player and pundit Jamie Carragher suggested that Lampard’s side should invest on an expensive defender such as Oblak as they did with attacking players.
