Children's HearMuffs sold at Sam's Club, Kroger, and other national retailers are being recalled because the alkaline batteries in the sound compression ear muffs can rupture, causing burns or other injuries.

Hearing Lab Technologies/Lucid Audio issued the recall after receiving 19 reports of the batteries exploding. No injuries were reported.

According to the recall notice, the AAA alkaline batteries used to operate the HearMuffs can pose a hearing, projectile, or burn risk if they are not replaced as a part of this recall.

The recall affects about 31,150 ear muffs sold by the company that were produced in four different models - LA-infant-AM-WH, LA-infant-ASM-WH, LA-infant-ASM-WHPlus, and LA-kids-AM-WH. The model number is printed on the original packaging.

The HearMuffs, which are used for sound protection for children, were sold in multiple different colors and have a multi-mode power button that can switch between Off, Active, or Soothe Mode. The name HearMuffs is also printed in blue lettering on the ear muffs.

The ear muffs were sold both online and in stores from January 2018 to December 2021 for the cost of $30 to $40.

Consumers are urged to immediately stop using the recalled ear muffs. They should contact the company to receive two new replacement AAA batteries free of charge.
