Chris Brown Arrest: Everything You Need To Know About The Rape Allegations
Chris Brown has been arrested in Paris for allegations of aggravated rape and drug violations.
A woman claimed the singer raped her in a French hotel after meeting Brown on Jan. 15-16 at club Le Crystal, TMZ reported. The two allegedly went to the Mandarin Oriental Hotel where the woman claims she was raped, according to the news outlet.
French police have said they are currently processing Brown. They have two days to file preliminary charges or release Brown. Brown is being detained with two other individuals that have yet to be identified, CNN reported.
If booked and charged, Brown could be required to surrender his passport and remain in Paris until his trial date which could take up to a year, TMZ reported.
The arrest is not the first for the singer, who was also charged with felony assault and criminal threats in 2009 for an incident involving his girlfriend at the time, Rihanna. He received five years’ probation, domestic violence counseling and community service for the incident.
More recently, Brown was also arrested in July for felony battery after he was accused of punching a man who photographed him at a West Palm Beach, Florida, concert without his permission. He was released on $2,000 bail and pleaded guilty to the charges. He is currently awaiting trial in the case.
In May, another woman accused Brown of rape. The woman claimed that that the singer allegedly raped her at his home during a party. It was not determined if the sex was consensual or forced by the Los Angeles Police Department, TMZ reported. There is an ongoing lawsuit with Brown and the woman.
Brown and his bodyguard were also arrested in 2013 and charged with felony assault after an incident outside a hotel in Washington, D.C. The felony charge was reduced to a misdemeanor and Brown was released from jail without bail.
Also, in 2013, Brown attended a rehab facility but was kicked out after he smashed his mother’s car window during a family session. He was ordered to enter another rehab program and was hit with a probation violation for being kicked out of the rehab facility and sentenced to jail.
He was released from jail in June 2014 and then pleaded guilty to the altercation in Washington D.C., where he was sentenced to one day in prison and a $150 fine.
