‘The Christmas Contest’ Hallmark Movie Premiere: Cast, Trailer, Synopsis
Hallmark Channel’s very merry holiday season continues with the newest “Countdown to Christmas” holiday premiere, “The Christmas Contest.” The film, starring Candace Cameron Bure and John Brotherton, premieres Sunday night.
The film is definitely a treat for fans who watched the two on Netflix’s “Fuller House” for five seasons, where Bure reprised her childhood role of DJ Tanner (as DJ Fuller) and Brotherton starred as one of her love interests, Dr. Matt Harmon. Not only will it be exciting for fans of the pair on that show, but it will also be exciting as this is the first time fans will see Brotherton in a Hallmark film.
Bure, of course, will be familiar to Hallmarkies because of the many titles she has starred in over the years, including the “Aurora Teagarden Mysteries” series, as well as numerous Christmas titles. These include “Journey Back to Christmas,” “Switched for Christmas,” “A Shoe Addict’s Christmas,” “Christmas Town” and “If I Only Had Christmas.”
Barbar Niven (“Chesapeake Shores,” “The Crossword Mysteries”) also stars.
So what will happen in this film, which will be the first time Bure and Brotherton reunite since “Fuller House” came to an end? Let’s find out.
“Business consultant Lara (Bure) and retired baseball star Ben (Brotherton) learn that their local Denver television station is hosting a Christmas contest with a cash prize for a charity of the winner’s choosing, they seize the challenge,” a synopsis reads. “Lara is playing for the local senior center that her mom, Donna (Niven) attends, which is badly in need of repairs. Ben claims that he’s in the contest to help a local youth sports team but might be more interested in the press it could bring for his failing career.”
However, neither one knows about the other’s plans until they show up on the first day of competition and are stunned—as they are exes who didn’t see their relationship end well. As the competition continues though, both are stunned when they find themselves falling for one another again –even though they can’t both win.
“As the contest heats up with Christmas-themed challenges, our competitors realize they have far more in common than their love of Christmas,” the synopsis continues. “Now, Lara and Ben must decide what’s more important, winning the contest or finding true love.”
“The Christmas Contest” air Sunday at 8 p.m. EST on Hallmark Channel.
