Cole Sprouse, Lili Reinhart Tease Toni Topaz’s ‘Agenda’ In ‘Riverdale’ Season 2

“Riverdale” Season 2 recently introduced a new character named Toni Topaz (Vanessa Morgan), and she appeared to be both a friend and a foe especially to Betty (Lili Reinhart) and Jughead (Cole Sprouse).

While speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Reinhart and Sprouse teased Toni’s fate and said that even they are unsure whether or not Toni is a good person or a villainous one.

“It’s kind of up in the air for whether Toni is helping or hindering Jughead. I know she has her own agenda and it’s revealed what her agenda is over time. But it’s not quite clear if joining the Serpents is something that one: Jughead wants, or two: is something that’s actually good for him,” Sprouse said.

Reinhart also confirmed that Betty and Jughead’s relationship will be put to the test especially with Toni’s arrival. On this week’s episode, it was evident that Toni wants to always be by Jughead’s side.

“Toni Topaz is the complete opposite of Betty. She’s this new girl in Jughead’s life and I don’t want to say it’s necessarily a love triangle between the three of them, but she does cause a rift a little bit,” Reinhart said.

However, even though Toni’s goal is still unknown to the fans of the hit The CW series, Reinhart said that the character shouldn’t be a threat to the supporters of Bughead. “I don’t really think of that character in that way. She’s a lot more of just Jughead’s ally on the Southside in my opinion,” she said.

In the upcoming episodes, viewers can expect Jughead to be lured by Toni’s ways, while Betty continues to see red flags. “She’s a character that resonates with Jughead mentally quite a bit. So he has an easy time not seeing the red flags I think,” Sprouse said.

Meanwhile, Toni also happens to be a bisexual character in the series. Morgan herself is excited for what’s in store for her character relationship-wise. There have been rumors that Toni will be interested in Cheryl (Madelaine Petsch), and this is something that Morgan is open to since she’s real-life best friends with Petsch, according to Teen Vogue.

“Riverdale” Season 2 airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. EDT on The CW.
