College Admissions Scandal Update: Lori Loughlin May Have 'Big Advantage' Thanks To 'Formidable' Defense
As Lori Loughlin approaches her October 2020 trial for her alleged participation in the college admissions scam, new details have started to emerge about her defense and their planned strategy.
In 2019, Loughlin and her husband, Mossimo Giannulli, allegedly paid William "Rick" Singer $500,000 so that their daughters, Olivia Jade and Isabella Rose, could attend the University of Southern California (USC). Following the allegations, they were each charged with mail and wire fraud, honest services mail and wire fraud, money laundering, and conspiracy to commit federal programs bribery.
Now, a new report has indicated that the "Fuller House" star has hired a "formidable" legal team as she prepares for her upcoming court dates.
According to U.S. News & World Report, the actress has obtained the services of Sean Berkowitz. The lawyer, who has won cases against Enron executives in the past, is highly regarded by many in the field. As stated by Jeffrey Cramer, who previously worked alongside him in the U.S. attorney's office in Chicago, he is a "prosecutor's worst nightmare."

Additionally, he added that the attorney has the ability to take any problem with a case and turn it into a "big advantage," as he can reportedly take small gaps in a case and turn them into "big holes for you to run through."
Aside from reports about the specific attorney she hired, sources have also revealed other steps that the Netflix star has allegedly been taking behind the scenes as she prepares for her trial. Not only has it been stated that she believes she is in possession of a "secret weapon" that could prove her innocence, but her defense team also reportedly believes that they could benefit from various pieces of "critical" information.
However, the legal team has also been on the receiving end of some "sharp" criticism and have indicated that they do not want the case "tried" in this way. Moving forward, they have also reportedly changed their initial strategy leading up to the trial.
