College Student Dies After Being Raped By Man Who Took Energy Enhancing Pills Before Assault

A man in India was arrested Sunday for allegedly raping a college student, who died following the assault.

The accused, identified as 25-year-old Raj Gautam, had gone to the victim's house in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh when she was alone.

He had reportedly consumed two energy-enhancing pills before committing the crime, according to the Hindustan Times.

The police said that the accused raped her even though she tried to resist. When the unidenfitied victim started bleeding profusely, the accused got scared and fled from the scene, NDTV reported.

The girl's sister found the victim unconscious in the courtyard, bleeding. The family then informed the police, and rushed her to a local hospital, where the doctors declared her dead.

An autopsy confirmed that the girl had been raped and her cause of death was excessive bleeding from shock and hemorrhage.

Preliminary investigation revealed the accused and the victim knew each other. However, the relationship the two shared was not known. A chat between the two revealed the girl had refused his request of coming over to her house.

Last week, a 13-year-old girl was allegedly gang raped by six minor boys in the eastern state of Assam. The accused, who were arrested, were aged between 13 and 15. The police said Wednesday the girl was sexually assaulted on Nov. 1. "As per the complaint by the parents of the girl, she was alone in the house when the incident took place. The boys forcefully entered the house and raped her one by one. They also made videos of the act on their phones and assaulted her," a senior police officer, identified as Partha Pratim Das, said, the New Indian Express reported, citing Press Trust of India.

Authorities said the girl was scared and did not disclose the crime to anyone, as the accused had threatened to leak her video. "That video footage is the piece of evidence that we are investigating. The victim has been sent to the hospital for a medical checkup. What we have learned so far is that the victim was gangraped six days back. This is a case of late reporting," a police officer told Barak Bulletin.
