Columnist Claims Melania Trump ‘Doesn’t Need To Be Freed,’ Calls FLOTUS An ‘Opportunist’
KEY POINTS
- Melania Trump is an opportunist, just like her husband, President Donald Trump, according to a columnist
- The first lady allegedly renegotiated her prenup with Trump
- The FLOTUS is the most free person in Trump's world
A columnist has blasted Melania Trump, saying that the FLOTUS is not weak and "does not need to be freed" because she is an "opportunist."
Melania has garnered some sympathy from netizens as some believe her husband, President Donald Trump, has not been treating her well. However, one writer has refuted the claims that Melania needs to be freed from the POTUS' grasp.
In an op-ed for The Guardian, columnist Arwa Mahdawi called the first lady an “opportunist.” The writer also said that she sees the FLOTUS as someone just like her husband for turning a blind eye on his deeds.
“She has excused and enabled Trump’s most vile instincts and, like him, views the White House as an opportunity for private enrichment,” Mahdawi wrote.
A new book on the FLOTUS from author Mary Jordan titled, “The Art of Hear Deal: The Untold Story of Melania Trump,” has also claimed that her prenup agreement with Trump was not very generous. As a result, Melania allegedly delayed her move to the White House to renegotiate their prenup. She reportedly did it to ensure her son Barron Trump’s share of the inheritance.
There are no details as to what’s stated in Trump and Melania’s prenup. However, Mahdawi emphasized one thing about Melania, and that is she is not as helpless as most people seem to think.
“Melania is not the helpless victim so many people seem desperate to believe she is,” she wrote.
The columnist recalled how Melania generated a lot of pity over the past years. In fact, the hashtag #FreeMelania trended because many had noticed she looked dejected during the POTUS’ inauguration.
“It’s time to retire the #FreeMelania hashtag, the new biography of the first lady, written by Washington Post reporter Mary Jordan, argues. ‘She is … much more like [Trump] than it appears … Both are avid creators of their own history,’” the writer added.
One person who shares Mahdawi's views is CNN reporter Kate Bennett, the author of “Free, Melania.” She explained that contrary to claims, Trump’s wife is the “a” in his world. Bennett has been following the first lady for years, and she attests that there is nothing to be worried about for Melania.
“In terms of whether you like it or not, she does whatever she wants, whether you agree with it or not. She doesn’t really have a platform. She doesn’t really do events. She doesn’t have to campaign if she doesn’t want to,” Bennet said. “Do you know what I mean? She’s literally probably the most free modern First Lady that we’ve seen.”
