Concern Grows On Health Status Of Tua Tagovailoa As Injury's Extent Remains Unknown

Tua Tagovailoa of the Miami Dolphins was carried out on a stretcher following a violent sack in their game against the Cincinnati Bengals on Thursday, September 29, and there remains no word on his condition.

Tagovailoa was already coming into their match-up with questions surrounding his health (back and ankle injuries), and all this went from bad to worse he got sacked by Bengals lineman Josh Tupou on the second-and-7 that cost the Dolphins 10 yards.

The 24-year-old was already listed as questionable before the Dolphins vs. Bengals duel, but Tagovailoa still suited up.

He ended up being taken off the field after the violent sack of Tupou although the Hawaii native was able to raise his hands.

However, the gesture was branded by the Amazon broadcast as a neurological response to head trauma.

He remained on the turf for several minutes before he was carried off a stretcher and taken off the field.

Teddy Bridgewater came in and replaced Tagovailoa under center.

The Dolphins announced that the former Alabama Crimson Tide had suffered head and neck injuries.

They added that Tagovailoa was conscious and had movement in all his extremities as he was being brought to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

In the latest update on Tagovailoa, Amazon sideline reporter Kaylee Hartung said that the third-year player would be discharged from the hospital and would be traveling back home with the team.

Before this, it was believed that Tagovailoa had suffered a concussion in the Dolphins' last game against the Buffalo Bills.

The starting quarterback took a hard sack from Matt Milano and Tagovailoa could be seen stumbling on the field after the incident.

Tagovailoa, however, managed to return to the field and finish the game, a 21-19 win for the Dolphins.

After that, the NFL Players Association released a statement on Twitter.

"Player health and safety is at the core of the union's mission. Our concern tonight is for Tua and we hope for a full and speedy recovery. Our investigation into the potential protocol violation is ongoing," the statement read.

Tagovailoa is having a breakout NFL season as he had a six-touchdown performance against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 2 and entered Thursday's game with the No. 1 spot in ESPN's Total QBR (82.8) after rating 18th in that metric (55.7) last year.
