In an apparent case of murder-suicide, a Connecticut lawyer fatally shot his wife before killing himself on Christmas Day.
John Liquori, 59, a well-known divorce lawyer, and his wife Cindy Liquori, 55, were found dead at the latter's mother's home in Windsor Locks where she was dog-sitting. The bodies were found by Cindy's brother along with a revolver that was allegedly used to commit the crime, New York Daily News reported.
Windsor Locks Detective Sgt. Jeff Lampson said Cindy had COVID-19 and John may have had it too. Cindy's mother Claire Palmer too was undergoing treatment for the same at a nearby hospital.
A motive for murder-suicide has not been established yet, the police said.
John allegedly rang up Cindy's brother, asking him to come by Palmer’s home to pick up her dogs, the New York Daily News reported. Cindy's brother, who was not identified, told the police that John sounded distraught. Cindy's brother reached the home around 6 pm to find the bodies.
Police said Cindy was shot in her sleep and John's body was seen beside her on the bed. Police don't think the couple, who share a child, was estranged.
Though the autopsies were conducted on Monday, no additional information is available, said a report by Hartford Courant.
John had been a family court attorney for over three decades. His friend and colleague David Kelly described John as a "genial man who had a firm grasp of the law".
Cindy, an entrepreneur, owned Cindy's Soap Cottage. Her venture had been active during the pandemic.
In a similar incident at Franklin County, Kentucky, a man fatally shot his partner before turning the gun on himself. Lorenzo Simpson shot 39-year-old Carmelita Wright multiple times before killing himself at their house. The couple's child was in the house when the shooting took place.
Washington also witnessed a gruesome murder-suicide two months ago when a woman shot her twin daughters before killing herself. The double murder-suicide took place in Sunflower Circle in Sudden Valley. Deputies were called to the area for a welfare check after a roommate at the multi-level residence reported finding his landlord and her two children dead.
