Conservative British MP arrested for sexual assault
A British politician has been arrested over charges of sexual assault.
Andrew Bridgen, a Conservative MP for North West Leicestershire, was reportedly not charged and released on bail.
In a statement, Scotland Yard said Bridgen will have to answer questions in mid-July.
According to reports, the 46-year-old MP was detained on suspicions of sexually assaulting a 29-year-old woman in central London early Thursday morning.
Bridgen, a married father-of-two, entered Parliament last year General Election, and is viewed as a right-winger.
However, while leading British news sources like BBC and Daily Telegraph have identified the arrested man, neither Scotland Yard nor the Conservative Party would confirm that it was indeed Bridgen.
A Tory spokesman merely said: ''It is a matter for the police.''
According to reports, Bridgen is a former officer in the Royal Marines, and worked for his family's gardening business before pursuing political career.
Bridgen, a Eurosceptic, is a member of the Regulatory Reform Select Committee in the House of Commons.
