Cops Find Mother, Who Said She Threw Her Baby 'In The Trash,' Stabbed To Death
A woman, who admitted she abandoned her baby boy in a dumpster last year, was found fatally stabbed in Northeast D.C. Authorities said the baby’s father was arrested in connection with her death.
Cops responded to a hang-up call to 911 and arrived at an apartment on Benning Road just before 3 a.m. Wednesday to find the victim, identified as LaDonia Boggs, 39, in the doorway with an apparent stab wound and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to 7News.
Investigators believe the crime was “domestic in nature” and charged Carl Jones, 44, with second-degree murder while armed, authorities said. Jones is the father of Boggs’ son, Kyon Jones, who was reported missing in May 2021.
Boggs initially gave multiple stories to cops about what happened before her son disappeared. The mother later said her son stopped breathing after she rolled over him in bed while asleep.
“He was ‘sleep on my chest and when I woke up, he wasn’t breathing anymore, because he was just that small. He was only 2 months old. He was a premature baby,” she said at the time, NBC Washington reported.
Boggs said in her account that after finding her baby unresponsive, she went out for a walk around the block “a few times.” She returned to find Kyon still not breathing, according to a WTOP report from last year.
“I came back in the house and got a blanket and his car seat, and wrapped it up and took it outside and just throwed it in the trash,” she went on to say.
Investigators had a landfill in Charles City County, Virginia, searched for Kyon’s body, which may have unknowingly been dumped by the trash company. However, the 2-month-old infant's remains were never found.
Boggs was initially charged with murder after her baby boy disappeared. The charges were later downgraded to tampering with evidence after case documents were updated by prosecutors to include the possibility of Kyon’s death being an accident.
Following Kyon’s disappearance, investigators found heated text messages shared between the parents. Boggs also said in her messages to Jones that she regretted having the baby, WTOP reported.
Authorities are yet to reveal whether Boggs’ murder had anything to do with Kyon’s death last year.
D.C. police officers, who are still investigating the baby’s disappearance, are now also investigating Boggs’ murder.
