Coronavirus Update: Confirmed Cases Across The Globe Rise To 860,000
The novel coronavirus outbreak that first surfaced in the city of Wuhan, China in December 2019 and soon took over the world by storm has now infected over 860,000 people globally.
Out of the total number of infected cases, around 42,000 people have succumbed to the virus whereas 178,000 people have recovered from it, according to Johns Hopkins University. As of 31st March 2020, around 180 countries confirmed a coronavirus outbreak in their territories, CNN reported.
On Tuesday, the White House has projected a far worse scenario than the current one, wherein the country could expect anywhere between 100,000 to 240,000 coronavirus related deaths in the coming weeks. Further, Trump has asked all the U.S. citizens to be prepared for the upcoming 2 weeks, as they could turn out to be really painful. On Tuesday alone, the country saw a rise of more than 24,000 confirmed cases and over 800 deaths.
The coronavirus task force created by the White House urged all the U.S. citizens to adhere to the social distancing guidelines that would help mitigate the spread of the virus.
Out of all the states in the U.S., New York, and New Jersey have reported the highest number of coronavirus related cases, which are 75,795 and 18,696 respectively. The economic conditions in the country too continue to go downhill as prominent economists in the U.S. and across the globe predict a significant recession in the aftermath of the pandemic that has gripped the world.
The countries most affected by the virus include the United States, Italy, Spain, China, and Germany among others. The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the U.S. has crossed 189,618 cases whereas the number has reached 105,792 cases in Italy. Further, Spain and China have a total number of 95,923 and 82,294 novel coronavirus cases respectively. The overall coronavirus cases in the United Kingdom have increased to 25,481 and Switzerland has allegedly reported a number of 16,605 COVID-19 cases. Canada too has witnessed an increase in the coronavirus patients, and the total number of cases has gone up to 8,591.
The virus continues to affect both the young as well as the old population equally and it has been particularly deadly for the ones with compromised immune systems and prior medical conditions.
