An old house that no one wanted is now a sight for sore eyes after its new owners gave it an incredibly chic makeover.
A U.K. couple who moved to a 1970s house in Portishead near Bristol early last year decided to devote their free time during the March lockdown phase to renovate their house and kept sharing shots of the developments on an Instagram page called @portisheadproject.
The shabby double-story house had been on the real estate chart for several years but didn’t have any takers until Steve and Kirsten Currer decided to buy it. Photos on the page show the work is in progress, with the roof, render, and cladding completed with a new kitchen and a new nursery.
The pair bought the house at a way cheaper price as compared to other properties and poured their hearts into the renovation to bring it back to life. They kicked off the renovation efforts by getting the electricity and plumbing sorted and by fitting a new bathroom, Bristol Live reported.
"Then the pressure was on to get the house in a living condition. We've done everything to it - it might as well be a new build," Steve, who runs a plaster shop, told the outlet.
Steve said they had to giddy up the project because Kirsten got pregnant with their first baby, Jonah, during the project. The baby was born just a day after the carpets were laid and the house was made habitable.
Steve said his plastering and building experience saved them a great deal of fortune and that his friends helped him with essentials like the electrical wiring.
"We were fortunate that no one wanted this house and it had been on the market for quite a long time. Some older properties just need a bit of love and bringing back to life," said Steve.
