Cristiano Ronaldo Presents Strong Case For Winning 2019 Ballon d'Or
Juventus superstar Cristiano Ronaldo shouldn’t be ruled out in this year’s Ballon d’Or top candidates as he has proven that he has a strong case to win the prestigious award.
In the world of soccer, Ballon d’Or is arguably the most anticipated honor among all the awards given to the most notable players each year. As a five-time winner of the coveted award, Ronaldo’s candidature must not be snubbed despite all the buzz pointing to Lionel Messi and Virgil van Dijk being the favorites this year.
While Messi and Ronaldo have been consistently sharing quite similar kind of reputation, Messi yet again failed to win a major trophy with his national team. While his rival Ronaldo on the other hand, was successful in leading Portugal to Nations League title.
In terms of individual stats, the Portugese star’s numbers are far better than the rest who are given preference for the Ballon d’Or award.
Back in 2013, “CR7” has proven that individual stats are enough to deserve the said honor when he was chosen over Franck Ribery despite not being able to be a part of a major title-winning side, The Statesman reported.
This year, Ronaldo will present a strong case for himself having scored 28 goals from 43 matches last season for Juventus. For his national team, Ronaldo netted as many as 14 goals in just 10 matches and has successfully led them to European qualification. He also scored in crucial moments of the UEFA Nations League-winning campaign.
As for his Juventus status, the club have been continuously winning the Serie A title since 2012 and their dominance in the league has significantly gotten better with the addition of former Real Madrid superstar Ronaldo .
Needless to say, Ronaldo was superb for the Old Lady in their yet another league winning season. He netted 28 times across competitions leading his side to a record eighth title in a row.
Another glitter to his already stellar career happened just over a week ago. Ronaldo is on his way to making history as he is now aiming to reach the milestone of 100 international goals for Portugal, something that no soccer player has ever done before for his nation.
During the match against Luxembourg, the 34-year-old striker scored and is now one goal away from making history.
As the crowd continuously chanted Messi’s name, Ronaldo scored a goal late on, confirming Portugal’s safe passage through to Euro 2020. Fans was silenced and the legendary striker had the last laugh once again.
