In the world of cruise ships, woman captains are a rarity. It is more of a male-dominated world. But a handful of women have made it to the top ranks.

There is Serena Melani of Regent Seven Seas Cruises. She is offering some nice tips for cruise lovers on how to get the best views.

Melani with decades of cruising experience is set to make history as the first woman captain of a brand-new cruise ship: the Seven Seas Splendor, to be launched in 2020.

According to cruise news, the all-suite, all-balcony ship has already made news with its 375 staterooms, the largest suite ever built on a luxury cruise ship, and a custom, hand-crafted $200,000 bed.

Melani’s tips for a nice cruise vacation

Foremost is get up early to view the approach into port as it gives them the “most unique views of a destination” from the deck as it enters the port.

To be an early riser, she suggests setting an alarm earlier than usual to get that first glimpse. Instead of clicking photos through the lens of the cell phone, it is best to take a "photo with the mind." That means being present to offer your deeper connection to the overall experience.

Every ship has own soul and it takes time to explore the decks. Engage with people, chat with the crew and meet with the captain to learn more about the ship.

People with seasickness must tale cabins at the lowest possible deck. Always carry literary works that describe aspects of the Port of Call going to be visited. Poetry lovers may take Petar II Petrović-Njegoš’ vast collection if they are visiting Montenegro.

Melani who became the line’s first female master captain in 2016 is modest about commenting on any gender divide.

“Growing up in this industry has taught me to not spend too much time thinking about the ratio. At the end of the day, I’ve always done what I loved and that’s all that mattered,” quips Melani.

A new ship of Princess Cruises starts the journey

Meanwhile, Sky Princess, the brand new ship of Princess Cruises has set sail on the inaugural cruise from Athens in Greece on Sunday. Heading to Barcelona in Spain, via the Mediterranean and Adriatic seas, it is the ship’s introductory voyage in Europe. Barcelona is famous for the team FC Barcelona.

Sky Princess will have a series of Mediterranean voyages this fall before the North American debut in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on Dec. 1 with an exclusive Caribbean cruise.

“It's really special for guests. A lot of guests take pride in saying they've sailed in an inaugural cruise," said Alivia Owyoung Ender, spokesperson for Princess Cruises.

Sky Princess will carry 3,660 passengers with cruise deals and offers all the popular features of the Majestic Princess, Regal Princess, and Royal Princess. The amenities also include Jacuzzis and a larger adults-only area.
