'Cyberpunk 2077' Could Challenge 'GTA Online' Because Of This Newly Uncovered Content
KEY POINTS
- CD Projekt Red previously canceled the multiplayer mode of "Cyberpunk 2077"
- Rumors about the game's multiplayer mode, however, surface online every now and then
- Dataminers also uncovered two expansions that could release on "Cyberpunk 2077" soon
Polish gaming studio CD Projekt Red could still release the canceled "Cyberpunk 2077" project multiplayer campaign and other DLCs, according to recent datamining activity.
"Cyberpunk 2077" received the Update 1.3 last week and rolled out over 40 GB of changes. Based on the analysis of dataminer and content creator Tyler McVicker, the most recent update, which is the game's biggest patch so far, has brought significant changes to "Cyberpunk 2077" and its engine.
A datamining on the game's executable file has uncovered new references to expansions and multiplayer content. The dataminer said at least a couple of game expansions are now listed on the game's files.
There is also a reference to "multiplayer gyms," as well as to different tests. Moreover, the dataminer uncovered a reference to "old multiplayer" mode, which could lead back to the original plan of CD Projekt Red for the game.
Unfortunately, none of the details uncovered by the dataminer has been officially confirmed by the game developer. It is possible that these references mean nothing.
However, there is also a great chance that they will bring a win to the game following its catastrophic launch. Releasing the game's multiplayer mode could buy the developers time to perfect the game.
When the game developer first announced "Cyberpunk 2077," it also shared its multiplayer plan. Unfortunately, the mode was canceled as the game got closer to its official release.
In March, CD Projekt Red rolled out a new roadmap, which did not mention any online modes or features. Instead of talking about a standalone multiplayer mode for the game, CDPR discussed working on integrating multiplayer directly to the base game.
There was very little information about it until a job listing was discovered in June. The job ad hinted that the game developer was working on the game's multiplayer features.
The first unofficial details of the originally planned multiplayer modes were discovered by dataminers in January. At the time, they uncovered on the game's executable file references to Deathmatch and Heists multiplayer modes.
Unfortunately, while these details are exciting, they are not official. CD Projekt Red has yet to confirm its plan on releasing multiplayer modes and expansions of "Cyberpunk 2077."
