A man has ended up behind bars after he allegedly paid his neighbor to kill his 7-year-old daughter so that he can frame his wife for the murder. Police said the accused was angry at his wife for not accepting the "triple talaq," a controversial Islamic divorce method.
Police arrested Muzammil Shamad, hailing from the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, Saturday in connection with the murder of his daughter, reported The Times Of India.
His neighbor Amir and brother Mudassir Shamad have also been arrested on the complaint of the child's mother Shabnam. The accused have been charged with murder and criminal conspiracy.
In her complaint, Shabnam said she got married to Muzammil in 2010. However, he gave her a triple talaq in 2014. "He gave me the talaq in my absence, rendering it invalid. He remarried the following year and has been trying to make me leave my matrimonial house. He even tried to throw acid on me in 2018, but failed,” Shabnam told The Times Of India.
On Sept. 19, she found her daughter Saba lying in a pool of blood with her throat slit. Further investigation revealed Muzammil had paid his neighbor Amir Rs 8,000 ($108) and free drinks to murder his daughter. He also met his brother earlier in the month and decided to carry out the crime on Sept. 19 and frame his wife for it.
"During the investigation, we found that Saba was held by her uncle Mudassir who attacked her with a hammer while Amir slit her throat. The father of the girl stayed in Delhi to ward off suspicion," a senior police officer told the news outlet. Police also found Amir’s blood-soaked clothes from a nearby field.
The police officer confirmed that an investigation was launched in 2018 into the alleged acid attack. However, Muzammil was not booked as there was no evidence against him.
Meanwhile, Shabnam has also expressed doubt that her husband was behind the death of her son that happened three years ago.
A similar incident was reported in India recently wherein a child was killed by her father because his wife wouldn't wear a veil. The accused and his family then secretly cremated the child's body. However, the alleged murder came to light after the woman and her parents filed a complaint with the police.
