‘Dance Moms’ Season 5, Episode 23 Spoilers: Who Wins In ‘Maddie vs. Mackenzie’?
Tuesday’s Season 5 episode of “Dance Moms” will be a battle of the Ziegler sisters. For the first time in years, Maddie Ziegler, 12, and her sister, Mackenzie, then 10, will go head-to-head in episode 23.
“Maddie and Mackenzie are competing with solos against each other in the same age category,” the synopsis for “Maddie vs. Mackenzie” reveals. And despite Maddie’s track record — she has starred in several award-winning music videos and performed at the 2015 Grammys — her fight for first-place will not be easily won. The summary reveals that coach Abby Lee Miller will put “pressure” on Maddie by giving her a tap solo, a departure from her usual lyrical routines, to go up against Mackenzie’s jazz/acro solo.
Unfortunately for Maddie, the premiere of her latest project alongside Australian singer Sia, titled "Big Girls Cry," will cause some unwanted drama in her quest to win. “Maddie’s new video debuted last night,” Maddie and Mackenzie’s mom, Melissa Gisoni, shares excitedly in the trailer for episode 23.
“Everybody kept saying how boring it was,” dance mom Kira Girard interjects.
[Spoiler Alert]
So, which Ziegler won the battle of the solos? Despite Abby’s attempt to boost up Maddie’s costume at the last minute -- a sneak preview shows her putting her own weave in Maddie's hair before she goes onstage to compete her 60s-inspired routine -- it was Mackenzie who ultimately won first-place.
According to one “Dance Moms” spoiler site, Mackenzie took home first-place in the junior division and first-place overall for her routine, titled “Sink of Swim,” at Center Stage Dance Competition in Anaheim, California, on April 4. Maddie’s routine, “Boots Are Made for Walkin,” placed second in the junior division and second overall.
