‘Dance Moms’ Star Maddie Ziegler, First Daughter Malia Obama Make Time's 2015 Most Influential Teens List
Abby Lee Miller’s star student has been named one of 2015’s most influential teens by Time. Maddie Ziegler, who has starred alongside the infamous dance coach on the Lifetime series since 2011, is one of 30 names being celebrated by the publication.
Time’s decision to recognize Maddie comes off the 13 year old’s impressive year in show business. Following her starring role in Sia’s 2014 music video “Chandelier,” Maddie went on to star in two more music videos for the Australian pop singer in 2015. “Elastic Heart,” which co-starred Shia LaBeouf, and “Big Girls Cry,” each earned the young performer rave reviews and accumulated over 507 million views on YouTube. Maddie went on to perform alongside Sia on several cable television shows and at the 2015 Grammys alongside “SNL” alumna Kristen Wiig in February.
Maddie’s year has also included a jump into the world of fashion. In February, she worked as ELLE.com's official correspondent at New York Fashion Week. She returned to New York City in September, sitting front row at dozens of New York Fashion Week shows. She even showed off her modeling skills over the summer, walking alongside her sister Mackenzie Ziegler, 11, in the Polo Ralph Lauren Fall 2015 Children’s Fashion Show. Maddie’s presence in the fashion world was cemented last month when she was named one of Teen Vogue’s "next big things," starring in a photo shoot alongside fellow up and comers Mackenzie Foy (“The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn”) and Patrick Schwarzenegger. Maddie was most recently recognized for her fashion sense Wednesday, being named one of Harper's Bazaar’s 19 Rising Style Icons Aged 19 and Under.
Despite having a banner year, Maddie is not showing any signs of slowing down. While production on “Dance Moms” Season 6 is in full-swing, Maddie is currently in New York City filming her first feature film. “Jurassic World” director Colin Trevorrow has announced that Maddie will star in his upcoming drama “The Book of Henry" alongside Oscar-nominated actress Naomi Watts. And that’s not all. Sia announced in September that Maddie will star in her movie “Sisters.” Could there be two Maddie Ziegler movies premiering in 2016? It’s definitely a possibility!
Maddie has since thanked Time for the recognition. Some of the other names that join Maddie on The 30 Most Influential Teens of 2015 list include First Daughter Malia Obama. 17; “Dancing With the Stars” competitor and animal activist Bindi Irwin, 17; “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” star Kylie Jenner, 18; “Shark Tank” entrepreneur Moziah Bridges, 13; and Norwegian athlete Martin Odegaard, 16.
