A new couple was crowned king and queen of the ballroom during the Season 22 finale of “Dancing With the Stars.” So which duo from the hit ABC series sashayed away with the sparkling Mirror Ball trophy Tuesday night? Well, out of the remaining three couples, it was Nyle DiMarco and Peta Murgatroyd who managed to snag the coveted title of “DWTS” champions.

Both Nyle and Peta were overwhelmed with joy after the show’s co-hosts, Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews, announced them as the winners of the 2016 season. Following the big reveal, a storm of confetti erupted, falling down on the Season 22 victors as they embraced one another.

“If I can get into this hug fest here, let me present …” Tom began to say, attempting to award Nyle and Peta with their sparkling statue. The show’s newest titleholders managed to break free from the celebration to share their final thoughts on the season before the two-hour finale concluded.

“This is such an amazing feeling,” Peta said. “This whole thing has been so incredible because of this man.”

Although the final episode ended before Nyle could get an word in, viewers saw just how emotional the fan favorite competitor was following his Week 10 fusion routine. For their combined dance, Peta and Nyle fused together a cha cha and the tango.

“That was glorious in every possible way!” judge Bruno Tonioli told the two, adding that Nyle has performed some of the most memorable routines of the season.

But it was judge Carrie Ann Inaba’s comment — or lack their of — that really tugged on Nyle’s heartstring. Instead of critiquing Nyle and Peta’s dance with words, she signed her thoughts, causing Nyle to break down in tears.

“I said, ‘Thank you for showing us your beautiful heart when you dance,’” Carrie Ann revealed before the judges awarded the team with a perfect score.

Nyle and Peta weren’t the only couple to receive a perfect score for their finale routine. Paige VanZant and Mark Ballas also received all 10’s for their fusion dance, featuring a jive and salsa routine, earning them second place while Ginger Zee and Val Chmerkovskiy came in at third.
