‘Dancing With The Stars’ 2017: How The Remaining Season 24 Pairs Prepared For The Semifinals
The end is near for the remaining four “Dancing With the Stars” Season 24 cast members. One more team will be sent home on Monday ahead of the final round, which determines who will leave the ballroom with the Mirrorball trophy.
During Week 9 of the ABC dancing competition, each team will perform two dances. The first will be a judge’s challenge, in which “DWTS” partners will be paired with Len Goodman, Bruno Tonioli, Carrie Ann Inaba or Julianne Hough to perform a routine that highlights a specific skill. Their second routine will be a dance in a style they’ve yet to try on the competition series.
The semifinals pairings are as follows:
Team Golden Giggles
Sasha Farber and Simone Biles will be guided by Carrie Ann. Their first dance during Monday’s show will be a Jive to “Faith” by Stevie Wonder ft. Ariana Grande. Their second dance in the semifinals will be a Rumba to Demi Lovato’s “Skyscraper.”
Team Shad Squad
Emma Slater and Rashad Jennings will kick off Week 9 on “DWTS” with a Rumba. The pair will be working with Bruno to perfect their steps before hitting the ballroom to dance to “Say You Won’t Let Go” by James Arthur. Their second routine of the night will be a Quickstep to “Yes I Can” by Superhumans.
Team Valmani
Val Chmerkovskiy and Normani Kordei will be coached by Len, who’s been doling out harsh critiques to them since Week 1 on “DWTS.” Their first dance on Monday will be a Viennese Waltz to Rihanna’s “Desperado.” Their second routine of the night will be a Jazz performance to “What a Wonderful World” by Ray Charles.
Team Lady And The Gramp
Lindsay Arnold and David Ross are working with Julianne to perfect their Week 9 Foxtrot. The pair will be dancing to “You Make Me Feel So Young” by Michael Bublé. Their second routine will be a Tango to “Castle on the Hill” by Ed Sheeran.
Val and Normani are the favorites to win Season 24 of “DWTS,” but those who have been tuning in to the show week after week know how unpredictable it is. On top of that, the competition is steep. Most fans of the ABC series predict Lindsay and David will dance their final dance in Week 9, but it’s anyone’s guess who will emerge the winner of the overall competition.

Team Golden Giggles has been comfortably seated directly behind Team Valmnai throughout Season 24. The pair hit a rough patch in Week 8, as the judges demanded more authentic emotion from Simone. She attempted to deliver something other than her million dollar smile during her second performance that night, but the judges — specifically Carrie Ann — weren’t buying it.
ET Online caught up with Team Golden Giggles after that show in the hopes of gauging their frustrations. Simone was at a loss as to what the judges wanted from her, but Sasha had a plan. Rather than give up, he revealed a strategy to bring out more feeling and establish a better connection with the judges in Week 9.
“I just know how hard this girl works,” he told ET. “Each week she comes in and she delivers something different. There’s a lot of expectation on her shoulders, and we’re just gonna go back into the studio and keep digging.”

In the week since, Sasha and Simone — as well as the rest of the “DWTS” Season 24 cast — have been hard at work. Here’s how they prepared for Week 9 on the show:
Team Golden Giggles
Sasha and Simone spent the week holed up in their practice space, working hard to nail their routine. As always, they made a little time for fun and even accepted visitors. When they weren’t working to nail their footwork, Sasha and Simone were spending time with Olympic gymnast Aly Raisman or taping funny clips for followers.
Simone was relatively quiet on social media over the weekend, at least in regards to “DWTS” content. Sasha, however, captured several special moments related to the show. Perhaps one of the most telling shows Simone and Carrie Ann hugging in the studio, suggesting there’s no bad blood after Week 8.
It wasn’t all fun and games, of course. Sasha and Simone were also hard at work on their dances. If the photos are any indication, viewers and the judges are going to be floored by the drama they bring in Week 9 of “DWTS.” Sasha shared this photo, showing he and Simone working on their form.
Team Valmani
Val and Normani have kept fans on their toes all season long. Although they’ve shared a lot of their journey on social media, they often keep the content of their dances under wraps until they step into the “DWTS” ballroom. This week is no different.
Val shared two photos from his weekend practices with Normani, but the pair aren’t dancing in either photo. Instead, he took a moment to show some appreciation for his Season 24 partner. Val wrote that this season’s been a blast, adding that he’d never forget his time dancing with Normani.
Team Lady And The Gramp
Lindsay and David definitely spent this week gearing up for Week 9, but they’re not giving anything away about what they’ve got cooking. Lindsay shared a Boomerang of herself jumping for joy in her workout gear in the studio, but David doesn’t appear in it. Similarly, David snapped a photo while playing catch with a “DWTS” cameraman, but not Lindsay.
Team Shad Squad
Emma and Rashad brought Bruno into the studio with them to help nail their moves and form. This has been something the judges repeatedly critiqued the NFL superstar about, so here’s hoping Bruno got through to him. He and Emma both shared a series of photos that give us hope!
When they weren’t practicing, Emma and Rashad were swooning over their tiniest fan. In a video uploaded to the former New York Giants player’s Instagram, he and Emma can be seen watching a little girl dance along with them during Week 8 of “DWTS.” The pair invite her to come spend some time in practice with them, thought it’s unclear whether we’ll see her join them on the show.
Will all this practice pay off? Tune in to Week 9 of “DWTS” Monday at 8 p.m. EDT on ABC to find out which team gets sent home and which three advance to the finals.
