‘Dancing With The Stars’ 2017: Will Injury Keep Normani Kordei Out Of The Season 24 Finale?
There’s been another shakeup on the “Dancing With the Stars” Season 24 cast, this time just days before the finale. Normani Kordei and partner Val Chmerkovskiy have long since been favored to win the competition, but an injury may keep them from reaching their full potential.
ET Online confirmed on Friday that the Fifth Harmony singer was injured during practice. Video of her injury first appeared on TMZ, showing Normani attempting a split before rolling her ankle. The publication reported that she will still appear in the ABC show’s Season 24 finale despite having hurt herself.

This is neither the first blow to the cast nor Normani’s first injury on “DWTS.” In fact, during Week 7 viewers learned she’d been dealing with some serious complications from a back injury she received while appearing on the show as well. Normani opened up about the severity of her injuries after that week’s performance, telling Us Weekly she was determined to dance through the pain of the “severe strain” on her body.
“I’m on medication, and I just have to pace myself and take things step by step,” she said. “[The doctor] literally told me if I keep going at the rate that I'm going that I could crack my hip, which I don’t want. I have three weeks left of the competition and it’s, like, so close, but so far. I just have to play it smart.”
Although Normani’s had her physical challenges during Season 24 of “DWTS,” she and Val have held tight to their No. 1 spot on the leaderboard. The pair were nearly dethroned in Week 9 by Simone Biles and Sasha Farber, who earned the only two perfect scores of the competition. They were sent packing at the end of the night, however, allowing Normani and Val to continue their reign.
Their elimination was one of many that have shaken the “DWTS” Season 24 cast to their core. In Week 6, Heather Morris and Maksim Chmerkovskiy were sent home after receiving the first perfect score of the season. The following week David Ross and Lindsay Arnold were chosen to advance over both Nancy Kerrigan and Artem Chigvintsev and Nick Viall and Peta Murgatroyd.

With so much uncertainty, fans are nervous heading into the “DWTS” finale. Normani and Val have the highest chance of winning, according to Oddsmakers, but the other teams aren’t to be counted out. Rashad Jennings and Emma Slater have been on an upward climb since Week 1, making significant improvements and strides toward the No.1 spot on the leaderboard. David and Lindsay continued to get better as the weeks passed as well and are a favorite with fans, which significantly increases their chances of leaving the ballroom winners.
That said, they’re not oblivious to how lucky they are to still be in the competition and in the finals. Many “DWTS” fans thought their run on the show would be brief, though they’ve been a joy to watch. They continue to advance despite lower scores than some of their competitors thanks to love from fans.
Who will win Season 24 of “DWTS”? Tune in Monday at 8 p.m. EDT on ABC to find out.
