‘Dancing With The Stars’ Season 21 Contestant Nick Carter Explains Why His Week 8 Performance Was So Important [VIDEO]
It looks like the Backstreet Boys just gained another member! During Week 8 of “Dancing With the Stars,” Season 21 contestant Nick Carter revealed that he and his wife, Lauren Kitt, are expecting a baby. But that wasn’t the only good news the excited couple shared. During the live show, the two learned, along with the audience, that they were going to have a little boy.
Before the gender reveal, Nick and his partner Sharna Burgess performed a routine that was inspired by the most iconic person in the singer’s life -- his wife. The contemporary routine, sound tracked to “Can’t Help Falling in Love,” honored Nick and Lauren’s love story as well as explained the struggles they faced while trying to get pregnant.
“We’ve been trying to have a baby for the about year now,” Nick explained in his Week 8 package, adding that it’s been “quite rocky.” “There have been times when we thought it wouldn’t happen.”
Lauren elaborated on their fertility issues, noting that it’s been “hard” on the blonde-haired performer. “We were pregnant before and we lost the baby,” she admitted. But now, nearly a year later, Lauren is expecting a healthy, little boy -- and Nick wanted to perform a dance that expressed his love for his wife and unborn child.
"I wanted to make it the best it can be for my wife, my future child, for Sharna, just to make it something that we could always remember because it was so important and it was so special," he told E! Online after the live show. Nick and Sharna earned a perfect score for their emotionally charged routine as well as immunity for next week’s elimination. "It was surreal to get the 10s -- finally a perfect score! I was blown away…I'm so happy that this was the night that it happened."
“Dancing With the Stars” airs Monday nights at 8 p.m. EST on ABC.
