The DASH Diet in Layman's Terms
The Dash diet is the newest hype in the internet for teenaged girls, but what is it?
DASH, acronym for Dietary Approach to Stop Hypertension, was originally studied to treat adults with hypertension.
Simply put, it is a diet consisting of more fruits, vegetables, lean meat, and whole grains -and less red meat and carbs.
DashDiet.org explains that the main focus of the plan is to reduce salt intake, which helps to reduce blood-pressure in older dieters.
U.S. News and World Report recently ranked the DASH diet as the best overall diet. It also ranked number one for preventing or managing diabetes.
Doctors are saying that the DASH diet is beneficial to young girls as it can help lower their body mass index (BMI).
A new study shows young girls whose diet resembled DASH had the smallest increase in BMI recorded over a span of 10 years. They also showed the lowest BMIs in the research's follow-up period.
A healthy and safe diet such as this will not just benefit teens, but anyone. It should not be singled out just to overweight folks.
Eat More fruits, veggies, lean met, and whole grains, and you are on your way to a slimmer, healthier body. But advice to you is not to stress yourself on implementing a diet, but just focus more on eating healthier.
Reduce fat, reduce hypertension. DASH forward!
