‘Daybreak’: How Sisters Alyvia, Natalie Alyn Lind Made Netflix Show A Family Affair
Often, actors say their castmates become like family to them while filming, but for Alyvia Alyn Lind (“The Young and the Restless”), who plays Angelica on Netflix’s post-apocalyptic series “Daybreak,” which just released on the streaming service today, one of her co-stars actually is family.
While watching the show, viewers might notice a character who looks like she could be Alyvia’s older sister or someone who looks like Lauren Strucker from Fox’s dearly-departed “The Gifted.” Both of those observations are actually valid and true.
Natalie Alyn Lind, Alyvia’s oldest sister (the two also have another sister, Emily, who is the middle child and also an actress), makes a surprise appearance in “Daybreak,” and the family affair actually came about in quite the organic and last-minute manner.
While at New York Comic Con earlier this month to promote her role in Season 2 of CBS All Access’ “Tell Me a Story,” Natalie let it slip to International Business Times that she has a small role in her sister’s new Netflix series. Though she didn’t reveal too much about her part in the project, Alyvia and her co-star Austin Crute (Wesley Fists) shared a bit more with IBT during their own NYCC appearance for “Daybreak.”
The two were paired up for interviews, and Crute couldn’t contain his excitement about Natalie’s mysterious role when IBT asked Alyvia about having her sister on the show.
Chiming in, Crute asked, “Do you know how she got the part,” before double-checking with Alyvia that it was okay for him to share. Once he received the OK, the “Booksmart” actor revealed Natalie nabbed the part while visiting the set of the show in support of her sister.
“She literally walked on set, with her Natalie-ness. She is a queen, a beast,” Crute told IBT. “And, literally, they were just like, ‘Do you want to be in this?’”
Though the sisters — who are daughters of actress Barbara Alyn Woods (best known for her role as Deb Scott on the long-running WB/CW drama, “One Tree Hill”) — got to share in the experience of working on this show, they didn’t actually get the chance to work on any scenes together.
“I actually didn’t [get to work with her]. I came to set the day she was working, though, and it was really fun to see her on the show that I’m working on,” Alyvia said. “She was actually on it towards the end, so I had already been on set and hanging out and coming to set on days I wasn’t working… and it was really fun to just kind of watch her and see how she took action to this character. She has a few fun scenes, and I’m really excited to see them.”
Everyone can now watch those Natalie-filled scenes, as well as the rest of “Daybreak” Season 1, on Netflix.
