‘Deadpool 2’ Casting: Pierce Brosnan Denies Cable Rumors, But These 4 Actors Haven’t
Sorry, “Deadpool” fans. Pierce Brosnan isn’t Cable. The former James Bond actor denied rumors during an appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” Tuesday.
After taking a photo with “Deadpool” star Ryan Reynolds and “X-Men” actor Hugh Jackman, many believed that meant they’d be working together. Brosnan, however, said that it was just a fun photo taken while they were all at an airport.
“Not true. Nothing’s come my way yet,” Brosnan said. He assured Kimmel that he wasn’t lying.
Brosnan can be eliminated from the list of rumored actors, and director David Leitch recently revealed that Brad Pitt’s name is off the list as well. Leitch told ComicBook.com that scheduling conflicts are to blame.
That leaves the highly anticipated role of Cable unfilled, but there are still several others who might be playing the superhero. Recent reports have claimed that these actors are up for the role, but none of them have commented.
Michael Shannon — The “Nocturnal Animals” actor is allegedly the first choice to play Cable, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Despite many reports that favor him, a deal still hasn’t been closed.
Nathan Fillion — A fan favorite among nerds, Fillion’s name was tossed in the rumor ring after a “Deadpool” clip appeared before “Logan.” In the new footage, Deadpool puts on his suit in a phone booth. At the 2:04 mark, posters for Fillion’s “Firefly,” the cult hit from 2002, were clearly seen in a shop window. Some believe it’s an Easter egg.
David Harbour — The “Stranger Things” star could be making the jump to the big screen. THR’s report notes that Harbour is on the shortlist.
Kyle Chandler — Early rumors claimed the “Friday Night Lights” alum would play Cable. However, THR’s report about Michael Shannon reveals he was never really in the running for the gig. The actor has never commented on the speculation.
The announcement that Cable, a mutant with psychic powers, would be in the “Deadpool” sequel was made in the post-credits scene in the first film. Since then, rumors have been running wild. More than a year later, it still isn’t clear when the casting for Cable will officially be announced. “Deadpool 2” is expected to start filming in Vancouver this summer, though, so it should be coming soon.
“Deadpool 2” will hit theaters in 2018.
