'Death Stranding' Will Be Very Intuitive And Will Give Players A Lot Of Freedom, Says Hideo Kojima
“Death Stranding” director Hideo Kojima was interviewed recently and he gave out some more details about the game. The director expanded upon the open world element of the game which he said will give players “a lot of freedom.”
“It’s an action game — an open world game, with a lot of freedom, Kojima told the PlayStation Blog. “You have a lot of freedom of choice to do what you want to do and you can get in vehicles and so on.”
Kojima further explained that players of “Death Stranding” have a choice on how exactly they want to play the game. If a player is more of a fighter, Kojima said that “there’s plenty of opportunity for that.” If that’s not how a player wants to progress through the game however, Kojima said that there are other ways to play the game. “I can’t really say much more, but it’s an open-world, action game that’s very intuitive to play. Once you get into the world and start to explore more, we’re hoping there’s something there you’ve never seen before,” Kojima said.
Kojima also talked about the different type of online play that will be available on “Death Stranding.” He said that unlike the typical online multiplayer on other games, competitive online gaming in “Death Stranding” isn’t solely focused on fighting each other with guns.
“We do have an online component and, again, it’s different as there will be something different versus what most people expect from an online game,” Kojima said. “A lot of games have a ‘campaign mode’ and once you’re done with that you take it to the online mode. This game is not that kind of structure.” Although Kojima didn't give out any specifics, at least players now know that they won't be forced to go online to enjoy the game, as pointed out by Game Rant.
“Death Stranding” stars Hollywood actors Norman Reedus and Mad Mikkelsen. Kojima believes this method of casting video games will soon become the norm in the future because creating a game like “Death Stranding” and creating movies have a very similar process. The director also revealed that he has always envisioned Reedus playing the lead character.
Lastly, Kojima gave a bit of an update on the development of “Death Stranding.” He said that they’re still hiring additional staff for their new office in Tokyo, and that they are currently running tests on the game.
