KEY POINTS
- Adriano Moraes is set to face Demetrious Johnson anew at ONE 161 in August
- Moraes and Johnson have scored wins since their last meeting at ONE on TNT 1 last year
- Johnson will be out to avenge his loss to even the score with Moraes
Singapore -- Two key figures in ONE Championship's flyweight division will meet anew for the stacked division's coveted prize at ONE 161 this coming August.
Reigning ONE flyweight champion Adriano Moraes will stake his title against a familiar foe in Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson in the main event of the aforementioned card, which will air live from the Singapore Indoor Stadium on August 27.
However, fans from North America will be able to watch the show live on August 26.
This was made possible after ONE Championship partnered with Amazon Prime Video as its broadcast partner. Much of this was covered here in a previous post on the International Business Times.
The rematch should be pretty interesting for both Moraes and Johnson.
Both initially faced each other at ONE on TNT I in April 2021. The result of that match shocked the world with most expecting Johnson to come out on top.
However, Moraes had other things in mind. The Brazilian ended up knocking out “Mighty Mouse” with a knee to the head in the second round.
The victory was so significant since Moraes became the only fighter to knock out Johnson in his 15-year mixed martial arts (MMA) career.
Since then, a lot has changed with Moraes and Johnson garnering success facing other fighters in the promotion.
“Mikinho” last faced Yuya Wakamatsu at ONE X this March, submitting the Japanese guillotine choke to extend his reign as the flyweight kingpin
On the other hand, Johnson is coming off a huge win over Rodtang Jitmuangon under hybrid MMA-Muay Thai rules, where “Mighty Mouse” put the elite Thai striker to sleep with a rear-naked choke.
With both fighters coming off wins, Johnson and Moraes are looking to keep the momentum with huge stakes on the line.
Johnson will be looking to avenge his previous loss to Moraes in the upcoming bout.
Learning from his last loss, the American is expected to make the necessary adjustments against the Brazilian fighter.
On the other hand, Moraes will be out to prove his previous KO win over Johnson was no fluke.
