They say no amount of tension can erase a mother's love for her child. This was reflected on Denise Richards' sweet birthday tribute to her daughter Sami, who turned 18 Thursday.

"In a blink of an eye you're 18…. !!!! Happy Birthday my beautiful Sami," the 51-year-old wrote while sharing photos of the birthday girl. "I love you so much. Privately many more words to share with you. I love you unconditionally and I am very blessed & grateful to be your mom. And Nana is looking down celebrating with you. I love you my sweet Sami."

Richards also shared snaps of Sami as a toddler, including one that showed the little one holding a sign that read: "I love you to pieces."

Her daughter took to the comments thread and replied, "Thank you so much mom, I love you too."

Richards shares Sami and 16-year-old daughter Lola with her ex-husband Charlie Sheen. Aside from Sami and Lola, Richards is also mom to 10-year-old daughter Eloise Joni, whom her husband Aaron Phypers is "in the process" of adopting.

The "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" actress earlier revealed that she has a "strained relationship" with Sami, who started living with her father after bolting out of her house last year. The teen said she felt "trapped" in Richards'place, which she described as a "hell house," People reported.

"It's very difficult," the former fashion model told SiriusXM's Jeff Lewis in February. "I know we'll get back to where we were eventually but right now, it is strained."

An insider told People in September 2021 that Richards "set normal rules that any parent would be setting," but Sami was defiant.

"She's a mom and a parent and there are rules. [Sami] didn't want to follow the rules. Charlie didn't support implementing Denise's rules. He has a different way of parenting and Sami decided to live with her dad," the source said. "Denise loves her daughter very much and she's saddened by the situation."

The "Wild Things" star also reflected on raising teenagers these days.

"I think it's very difficult raising teenagers now and especially in Los Angeles when there's access to everything," she told Lewis. "We didn't grow up with Postmates and Uber where you have everything that you want…There are certain rules and I enforce them. And [at Charlie's], there's different rules at that house and that's okay."
