  • Derick Dillard said the Duggars often get engaged young because they want to have sex
  • Jill Duggar seemingly agreed with her husband's comment
  • This came after Jill's 18-year-old brother, Justin Duggar, announced his engagement to Claire Spivey

"Counting On" alum Derick Dillard got candid about why the Duggar family gets engaged and marries young, and his wife, Jill Duggar, appeared to approve.

On Monday, Jill's 18-year-old brother, Justin Duggar, announced his engagement to Claire Spivey, 19. Some were shocked by his announcement, with one fan heading to his older sister's Instagram to ask why Justin and other members of the Duggar clan often get engaged young.

"Amazingly surprised that your brother is 17 [sic] and engaged!!! Why do you guys rush to marry life. He’s a kid and Claire too!!!" the Instagram user commented in one of Jill's latest posts.

However, it was Dillard who replied to the fan on his wife's behalf, giving an honest answer. "Because we want to have sex," the 31-year-old accountant wrote Tuesday.

Jill appeared to have no issues with her husband's bluntness. "And you're more popular than me babe," she replied, adding a laughing emoji.

The reality star also posted licking-lips and OK-symbol emojis in a separate comment.

Justin and Spivey revealed their engagement just two months after they announced their courtship. He proposed to her while celebrating his birthday with her in Texas.

“There is nothing comparable to finding the one you are meant to spend your life with," the couple told Us Weekly. "We know we have found that in each other. We cannot wait to be married and are looking forward to a life together of faith in Christ, love for one another and happiness!"

Jill was 22 when she got engaged to Dillard, then-25, back in 2014. Their courtship and wedding were documented on her family's then-reality show, "19 Kids and Counting."

"When my dad first introduced Derick and I, we spent hours texting, calling, and talking on Skype while 8,000 miles away from each other. And when we finally met in person in Nepal, we knew within days that we wanted to spend the rest of our lives together," she told ABC News in 2014.

"I love Derick's desire to follow God and to serve others," she continued. "Derick is so romantic and the proposal was perfect. We are incredibly happy and can't wait to share our courtship and engagement on '19 Kids & Counting.' Next up, wedding planning!”

“19 Kids and Counting” was axed following Josh Duggar’s child sexual abuse scandal in 2015. The family scored another reality show, “Counting On,” but Jill and Dillard left after Season 6 to prioritize their own family and goals.

Dillard had also claimed that they did not get paid for appearing on “Counting On.” Jill even hired a lawyer to recover her money from the TLC show, which was originally titled “Jill and Jessa: Counting On.” The amount she received was “a little more than minimum wage” and wasn’t close to what she had expected.
