Deshaun Watson Rumors: Panthers, Dolphins Pursuing QB, Miami More Likely To Make Trade
Multiple teams are interested in acquiring Deshaun Watson before Tuesday’s trade deadline. Even as the Houston Texans’ quarterback faces 22 allegations of sexual assault or misconduct, there seems to be a good chance he’ll be moved within the next week.
The Miami Dolphins and Carolina Panthers are pursuing Watson, according to reports. Miami has been linked to Watson since the 2021 season started and appears to be the frontrunner to land the 26-year-old.
Watson has only waived his no-trade clause for the Dolphins, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Rumors of Miami’s interest in Watson have heated up as the team continues to lose games. The Dolphins are 0-6 since beating the New England Patriots in Week 1. Tua Tagovailoa has not distinguished himself as the franchise’s quarterback of the future in nearly the same way as fellow 2020 first-round draft picks Joe Burrow and Justin Herbert have through 1.5 NFL seasons.
The Panthers talked to the Texans this week for the first time in a couple months. They've been monitoring the situation, but not actively involved.

Things could change ... but only six days left til the deadline. https://t.co/c5VG6NSQKr
While #Texans QB Deshaun Watson has only waived his no-trade clause, thus far, to the #Dolphins (which is true, as 1st reported by @RapSheet )...I'm also told Miami's offer still does not meet the threshold to get a deal done. The price will not bend for MIA, or any other team!

Watson’s pending legal issues have, so far, stood in the way of Miami meeting Houston’s asking price. Miami reportedly wants those issues resolved before trading several first-round picks.
It’s possible that Watson could still waive his no-trade clause for the Panthers if the Dolphins completely pull out of trade talks. Watson made it known early in 2021 that he no longer wanted to be part of the Texans.
The Philadelphia Eagles have also reportedly shown interest in trading for Watson.
Nothing has changed since the NFL informed the #Texans before camp that it wasn’t putting Deshaun Watson on the exempt list. Barring a criminal charge or new evidence, the expectation remains that Watson can play while the civil cases, police investigation and NFL probe play out. https://t.co/lb51VVRllX

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell indicated Tuesday that Watson would be allowed to play if the Texans or another team chose to put him on the active roster. Watson hasn’t taken a snap for Houston this season.
Watson made his third straight Pro Bowl last season. He set career-highs by completing 70.2% of his passes for 4,823 yards, 33 touchdowns and a 112.4 passer rating.
