  • Certain crafting currencies will be removed in Season 17
  • Crafting material caps have been increased significantly
  • More crafting changes may come soon in future updates

The weapon crafting system in “Destiny 2” will be receiving a major update next season to address some of the community’s gripes with it.

Players have been complaining about how tedious it is to craft weapons in “Destiny 2.” Players not only have to farm for weapons that have a special red border around them, but they also need to look out for five different currencies called “elements” in order to actually slot in perks in their custom guns.

Bungie will be removing the Adroit, Ruinous, Mutable, Drowned and Energetic Elements at the beginning of Season 17, which is slated for May.

According to the game developer, it wanted to keep players interested in chasing after perfectly-rolled weapons outside of the crafting system. This interest was supposed to be fueled by the five elements as each was tied to different perk categories. However, this made the crafting system more convoluted than necessary.

The general conversation among the “Destiny 2” community members about weapon crafting is that it takes too much time to earn elements and weapon Patterns, and the economy around crafting materials is too limited. Removing the five elements should help alleviate these issues.

Additionally, the crafting material caps for all elements this season have been increased substantially to allow for bigger stockpiles. Neutral Element can now be stacked to 10,000, while the other elements can be stacked up to 1,000.

Bungie also said that it wants to give players more control over the acquisition of weapon Patterns. As it stands, the process of unlocking craftable weapons is heavily reliant on two layers of RNG. The devs didn’t go into detail regarding their plans for this, but players can expect weapon Patterns to be more accessible in the future.

Lastly, in response to the community’s feedback, reshaping costs for crafted weapons could see some changes in the future. Many players have complained about how hard it is to experiment with different perk combinations because of the expensive material costs.

Bungie has yet to announce any final plans regarding other changes to the crafting system, but players can expect their crafting woes to be addressed in the following weeks.
