KEY POINTS

  • The "Witch Queen" expansion will add light-bearing Hive champions to "Destiny 2"
  • Players will soon be able to craft weapons in the game
  • Glaives will be added as a new melee weapon type

Bungie just finished 2021’s “Destiny 2” showcase and gave the fanbase plenty of new upcoming content to be excited about, particularly with the “Witch Queen” expansion that’s due out in the next six months.

The showcase gave fans a glimpse of new expansion content, mostly regarding the story and some of the most exciting new features that’ll eventually be added to “Destiny 2,” including new raids, weapons, exotics and significant story beats that will change the game’s universe forever.

Here’s a quick round-up of the most important and exciting information regarding the “Witch Queen” expansion and beyond from the “Destiny 2” showcase.

Savathun and Hive Guardians

Not only will the titular witch queen Savathun finally make an appearance, but she’s also bringing with her an entire cabal of light-infused Hive warriors called Hive Guardians. These enemies, much like the players, have access to elemental subclasses and can use Supers like Blade Barrage and Stormcaller.

This brings massive implications to the true nature of the Traveler and perhaps even the Hive itself. Regardless, more will be revealed during the “Witch Queen” expansion’s campaign as players invade Savathun’s Throneworld.

Glaives and Weapon Crafting

The expansion will introduce glaives to the game. New weapons for the Energy Weapon slot that can be used for melee and ranged combat. Unlike swords, glaives will keep players in first-person.

These new weapons can only be obtained via the new Weapon Crafting system that will be added to “Destiny 2.” Bungie didn’t share much about this crafting system other than it will be a combat-focused activity, possibly something similar to the Menagerie activity in the past.

Future Expansions

The Light and Dark saga of “Destiny 2” will be ending in the next few expansions, according to Bungie. After the “Witch Queen,” the story will continue in “Lightfall” and end in the last expansion of the storyline “The Final Shape.”

Again, Bungie didn’t give many details regarding these expansions. But while the current saga may end, “Destiny 2” will continue, so fans can still expect more content and support for the game until Bungie decides to make a third game.

Apart from these, players can still expect the usual barrage of seasonal content and balance changes that come with every major “Destiny 2” update. Bungie also promised new raids and dungeons every three months once the expansion drops.
