KEY POINTS

  • Fusion rifles are getting reworked in the next season
  • Some exotic weapons are getting toned down for both PvE and PvP
  • Scout rifles, machine guns and hand cannons are receiving buffs

A massive wave of changes is coming to weapon balance in “Destiny 2” in the upcoming seasonal update. Players can expect some new weapons to rise in popularity while others fall out of favor.

Changes to how weapons behave were shared by Bungie in its weekly TWAB blog. “Destiny 2’s” weapon feature lead Chris Proctor shared information regarding an upcoming fusion rifle rework, changes to stasis weapons and many more in a detailed post.

Here’s a condensed version of this week’s blog update, covering all of the important bits that “Destiny 2” players need to know.

Unlimited Ammo

Proctor said that primary weapon ammo management was never a tactically engaging feature to play around. As such, all primary weapons will soon have unlimited ammo. Primary weapon ammo boxes will no longer drop from enemies and perks that enhance primary weapon ammo reserves are getting reworked.

Breech Grenade Launchers

Grenade launchers are getting nerfed for PvP. Both blast radius and splash damage will be decreased to make Crucible matches healthier, but these weapons will receive a damage boost for PvE to compensate.

Weapons In PvE

Apart from the aforementioned changes to Breech Grenade Launchers, other weapons are also getting buffed for PvE.

Machine guns will get a 20% damage boost in PvE across all targets while scout rifles and hand cannons will receive a 15% boost against minor enemies.

Fusion Rifles

Bungie will be balancing fusion rifles to give each subfamily within the weapon class a more distinct identity. High-impact rifles will have slower charging times and less shots per burst in exchange for more damage per shot. Meanwhile, rapid-fire rifles will have faster charge times and more shots per burst in exchange for weaker damage output per shot. Adaptive and Precision fusion rifles will remain mostly unchanged.

Mods and perks that alter charge times are getting reworked to more accurately reflect the intended balance changes for fusion rifles.

Exotics

  • Anarchy is getting nerfed as it was deemed to be too powerful against both bosses and adds.
  • The Xenophage machine gun is getting its rate of fire and damage lowered to compensate for the global machine gun buffs.
  • Fighting Lion will receive the same treatment as other primary kinetic weapons and breech grenade launchers. However, its reload speed is getting reduced to compensate.
  • Vex Mythoclast is getting a PvE bonus damage buff, range buff, increased rate of fire, a catalyst that grants stability and extra damage on kill and it will no longer lose overcharge stacks when stowed while in linear fusion rifle mode.
  • Merciless will have its shots-per-burst count reduced but the damage penalty for increasing its charge rate will be reduced to compensate.
  • Jotunn will charge faster but its damage per shot will be slightly reduced.
  • Bastion will deal less damage but its PvE damage will be increased to compensate. Spread angle is also getting increased.
  • Sweet Business will now refill its magazine upon picking up a special or heavy ammo box.
