An updated version of Capcom and Ninja Theory’s action-adventure game “Devil May Cry” is coming to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on Tuesday. The Definitive Edition of the game will include new gameplay features, new costumes, a manual targeting system and a side of censorship.

In the original PlayStation 2 game, which reached players in 2001, a risqué conversation took place between villain Mundus, a demon and his demon mistress Lilith. The original conversation went as follows:

Mundus: "I will control the world through debt. I have absolute power."
Lilith: "The world is at last your b----, as am I. Nothing left but to grab it by the hair, bend it over and –."

The updated version cuts Lilith’s line after the word “b----,” eliminating her sexually suggestive come-on.

"We did make an edit to the opening cut scene," Ninja Theory chief creative director Tameem Antoniades told Eurogamer on Monday. "It wasn't a case of censorship, as there are far more suggestive scenes in the game. We felt that scene in particular drags on a little bit for the opening sequence, and frankly, we didn't like the line."

Antoniades did say that an additional scene was added to the game and that the team at Ninja Theory eliminated anything they felt was unnecessary about the 2001 version.

"Those few seconds were irrelevant to the scene and is covered effectively in a later scene where Mundus is metaphorically shafting world leaders. For the Definitive Edition, we took the opportunity to review all aspects of the game and change things that we didn't like or couldn't add in time. As part of that, we also added a brand new cut scene that didn't make it in time for the original game."

The game received positive reviews at the time of its launch more than a decade ago, earning a 94/100 on Metacritic. The game inspired three more titles in the series -- “Devil May Cry 2” (a prequel), “Devil May Cry 3” and “Devil May Cry 4.” The original title is often credited for creating a subgenre of action games called “extreme combat,” which focus on powerful heroes battling hordes of enemies with a focus on stylish action.
