Blizzard has just released a new short story chronicling Baptiste’s escape from Talon.

"What You Left Behind" is set in the fictional world of “Overwatch” and shows the support’s past coming back to haunt him.

"What You Left Behind" Summary

Baptiste was born in Port-de-Paix in Haiti and never really quite knew what to do with his life. He joined the Carribean Coalition the first chance he got, but he soon found himself working for Talon. He committed multiple atrocities and acts of violence as a medic for the terrorist organization before realizing the error of his ways.

The story then goes back to four years ago when Baptiste left the terrorist organization after the Monte Crist mission. Talon had burned the town down and even used an aircraft to gun down civilians. This is what made Baptiste realize he could no longer work for Talon. He is stopped from fleeing by his squad mate Mauga, a giant covered with tattoos, but he eventually lets Baptiste go.

The short story starts in a clinic in Port-de-Paix that has difficulty getting medical supplies. Sainclair Pharmaceuticals had been raising prices on medical supplies and the clinic was struggling to just stay afloat. After helping some of the patients at the clinic, Baptiste bumps into two of his former Talon squadmates at a nearby bar. Mauga, who tried to stop Baptiste from fleeing, and Nguyen, a “sharply-dressed Vietnamese man.”

The pair explain to Baptiste that they want him to go on one more mission with them. The mission would involve capturing Vernand Sainclair, the president of Sainclair Pharmaceuticals, because he had not been paying his monetary dues to Talon. Baptiste agrees, and not long after, they are shown entering the president’s sprawling estate. The trio quickly realize they’ve walked into an ambush and after fighting through dozens of guards, they finally reach Vernand Sainclair at his mansion. It is then found out that Sainclair has worked for “Overwatch” when the team was still active but had betrayed them by feeding intel to Talon.

To try and save himself, Sainclair offers up a datapad of all the locations of "Overwatch" heroes who had been called to action by Winston. When given the opportunity to slay Sainclair, Baptiste refuses and instead uses his jump boots to save the both of them. The story ends with Baptiste calling Sombra to help him find Dr. Ziegler or Mercy in order to warn her.

Did "Overwatch" just tease Hero 31?

While the story did not include a lot of easter eggs or hidden details, it did introduce fans of the game to Mauga. Mauga is a giant of a man with dreadlocks and tattoos who closely resembles Maui from Disney’s “Moana.” He has a shield that protects him from bullets and his “giant guns” are used to eliminate enemies.

The giant would make an amazing addition to the roster of playable Talon agents in “Overwatch.” Judging from his stature, Mauga will most likely be a tank. This would be great as it’s been a while since “Overwatch” released a tank, the last being Orisa.
