Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been making some recent waves regarding how they view and interact with the press. Not only did the Duchess of Sussex decide to sue the Mail on Sunday, but the Duke of Sussex also penned an emotional statement about how they view the treatment they have received in the media. These unusual actions may prompt fans of the British royal family to wonder if the Duke got permission from Queen Elizabeth II before releasing the letter.

According to Express, the answer is yes. Sara Latham, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's communications secretary, shared that the Duke did, in fact, discuss the statement with his grandmother prior to publishing.

However, per the Sun, the Duke wrote the piece without any guidance from Buckingham Palace or his team of senior advisers. This means that while he may have ultimately discussed the letter with the monarch before it was publicly released, it seems as though all of its contents came from Harry himself.

The fact that the Duke reportedly did not ask for guidance while penning the statement likely will not come as a surprise to royal watchers as it has been said that the couple really feels they can only confide in one particular person at this time.

Harry's decision to publish the piece has been met with some additional criticism as well, including a belief that the timing "overshadowed the end of the couple's southern Africa tour." The decision to go against royal convention would not be the first for the couple. Recently, the Duke and Duchess hired a history-making new team of advisers and decided to begin leading in a new way.
