Princess Eugenie might have made a subtle dig at Queen Elizabeth II during a rare interview.

Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson’s youngest daughter sat down for a rare interview with Vogue’s Elli Pithers last year before she walked down the aisle to tie the knot with her then long-time boyfriend Jacks Brooksbank. During the interview, one of Princess Eugenie’s possessions is a cushion with a text that might be interpreted as a subtle dig at the royal family.

Pithers met Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice at the Royal Lodge in Windsor where Queen Elizabeth II and Queen Mother lived. The gothic mansion now belongs to Princess Eugenie’s father, Prince Andrew.

Inside the residence was a flurry of jocular cushions. One read: “Born to gold, forced to work.”

According to Express, it could be a dig to the Queen as both Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice don’t receive any allowance from the privy council despite undertaking occasional public engagements. Both of Ferguson and Prince Andrew’s daughters are not considered working royals like Prince William, Middleton, Prince Harry and Markle.

The Sun’s royal correspondent Emily Andrew revealed that Prince Andrew asked his mother to make Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice full-time working royals like their cousins the Duke of Cambridge and Duke of Sussex.

“[Andrew] believes his daughters are being overshadowed by William, Kate and Harry and it will get worse as Prince George and Princess Charlotte get older,” Andrews said. “He fears that they will be totally sidelined when the Queen dies.”

However, the Queen refused to give in to her favorite son’s request. Prince Andrew was reportedly furious especially when his older brother Prince Charles removed his daughters from the payroll.

At present, Princess Eugenie works full-time at Hauser & Wirth in Mayfair, London. She holds a director position at the contemporary art gallery. She started working at the gallery in the summer of 2016 as an associate director. In 2017, she was promoted to her current position.

“Eugenie is working hard and doing a good job, the promotion is well deserved,” an insider said about the royal.
