Dina Manzo Husband Attacked, ‘RHONJ’ Alum’s Ex Allegedly Paid Mobster To Hurt David Cantin
No, this isn't a scene from an Italian mobster movie, it's real life. "Real Housewives of New Jersey" alum Dina Manzo's ex-husband was arrested for hiring a hitman to attack her current husband.
An indictment released by U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito office on Tuesday revealed that Dina's ex, 55-year-old Thomas Manzo, who she was married to for about 11 years, and 43-year-old John Perna were arrested on "charges of planning and carrying out an assault of the Bravo star’s current husband in exchange for a lavish wedding reception."
The alleged incident occurred in the spring of 2015 when Dina was dating her now-husband, David Cantin. Manzo is being accused of hiring Perna to attack Cantin in exchange for a substantial discount on a wedding reception at the Brownstone Restaurant in Paterson, New Jersey.
The plan was carried out in July of 2015 and the following month, Perna held a "lavish wedding reception" at the upscale restaurant for a "fraction of the price, which was paid by another Lucchese associate and close friend of Manzo’s." Prosecutors added that over 300 people attended the reception, including "many members of the Lucchese Crime Family."
As a result of alleged crimes both related and non-related to the assault on the "RHONJ" star's husband, Manzo and Perna are facing some hefty fines and jail time if proven guilty.
As noted by the U.S. attorney's office "the violent crime in aid of racketeering activity count against both defendants carries a maximum potential penalty of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. The conspiracy to commit the violent crime in aid of racketeering activity count against both defendants carries a maximum potential penalty of three years in prison and a $250,000 fine. The conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud count against Perna carries a maximum potential penalty of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. The falsifying and concealing records related to a federal investigation count against Manzo carries a maximum potential penalty of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine."
For both Manzo and Perna, that adds up to a potential 43 years behind bars and $750,000 in fines if they are found guilty and given the maximum sentence for each of their crimes.
