Raking in a whopping $2.79 billion at the worldwide box office and beating out James Cameron’s “Avatar” by a slight margin, “Avengers: Endgame” left comic book fans and moviegoers alike speechless in its climactic finale in April.

Last year’s “Infinity War” set up a slew of payoffs that awarded a community of faithful viewers one heroic experience, so much so that Disney has now ramped up an all-new campaign to bolster its own movie’s stock in the weighty Oscars competition.

The sleek new “Endgame” poster not only details a consideration for Best Picture, but also Best Sound Editing, Best Costume Design, Best Film Editing, and Best Sound Mixing. The 92nd Oscars will be held Feb. 9, 2020 and will feature some powerful potential competitors, from the likes of “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood” and “Jojo Rabbit” to “Ford v Ferrari” and even Disney’s own “Frozen 2.”

Yet, with a premise of superheroes like Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Captain America (Chris Evans), and Thor (Chris Hemsworth) going up against the mighty Thanos (Josh Bolin) in an end-of-the-world cataclysmic event, all bets are simply off. And, with Disney’s acquiring of many more beloved Marvel characters in its $71.3 billion buyout of 21st Century Fox, the next few years look to be just as heroic as the last—if not more so with Disney+ arriving in less than two weeks.

“Black Panther” was nominated for Best Picture in 2019’s Oscar race, and though it may not have won, the over $1 billion box office hit did pounce away with Best Original Score, Best Costume Design, and Best Production Design, so it’s no long shot for “Avengers: Endgame.” Speaking with ComicBook.com, “Endgame” producer Trinh Tran said:

“I think, with RDJ [Robert Downey Jr.], he spent the last decade bringing this character to life since the first ‘Iron Man.’ To pay tribute to him in ‘Endgame’ and where his journey ends, I hope everybody embraced what we felt emotionally was impactful to his character. I think that the Russos [directors Joe and Anthony Russo] mentioning that it would be great that he gets acknowledged for the endeavor that he did.”

The rumor of a cosmic hero debuting in the untitled “Avengers 5” is proof alone that Marvel knows what it’s doing well into the future. With a bevy of original shows forthcoming on Disney+, in addition to another decade’s worth of film already well-mapped by the genius Kevin Feige, even without winning any Oscars, Marvel Studios is headed for the stars as a whole new class of heroes emerge.
