Distressed Camel Severs, Chews Off Owner's Head; Neighbors Beat Animal To Death

A camel was tied to a tree and beaten to death in India after it decapitated its owner Monday.

The camel was tied in a hamlet near the village of Panchu in Bikaner when it suddenly broke its rope and ran after seeing another camel passing by, The Times of India reported, citing Panchu station house officer Manoj Yadav.

The owner of the camel tried to recapture the violent animal.

However, the camel then reportedly lifted its owner, identified as Sohanram Nayak, by the neck and threw him on the ground, chewing off the man's head.

The victim's family members and neighbors rushed to the spot following the fatal incident, and they managed to control the camel.

They then tied the camel to a tree and started hitting it using sticks to calm the animal, fearing that it could hurt other people. The beating ultimately resulted in the death of the camel.

Footage of the locals beating the animal to death went viral on social media. As of this writing, there has been no complaint filed in connection to the killing of the state animal.

Meanwhile, the man's body was handed over to the family after post-mortem.

In 2020, a camel also attacked and chewed its owner to death at Naya Shahar, according to a separate Times of India report.

According to police, Bhanwararam Jat, a 45-year-old resident of Kirmisar, was taking gravel on the camel cart when the camel caught him by his neck. As the animal would not let go of him, the man's head almost got severed from his body.

In the same year, a similar incident was reported at the Nokh police station area in the Jaisalmer district. A camel attacked its owner and left him severely injured. The owner later died while undergoing treatment.

Several people gathered at the spot, and some of them managed to tie the camel to a tree.
