Doctor Caught On Camera Brutally Thrashing Patient Suffering From Stomach Pain

In a shocking incident, a doctor was caught on camera brutally beating up a patient in front of other patients and hospital staff. The victim had reportedly approached the hospital complaining of stomach pain.

The incident occurred at a government hospital in the Indian state of Odisha. A video of the incident that occurred Sunday night went viral after the man approached the police, reported India Today.

The doctor was identified as Shailesh Kumar Dora, a consultant with Dharamgarh Sub Divisional Hospital in the Kalahandi district.

Local media reports said the patient, who hails from a nearby village, arrived at the hospital complaining of stomach pain. He consulted a physician there who examined him and prescribed some pills. The patient took the medication but decided to stay back at the hospital as he didn't feel well.

Hours later, he approached the hospital staff again asking why his condition wasn't improving. He requested to see Dr. Dora but was told by the hospital staff to wait as the doctor was not immediately available. This enraged the patient, who was already suffering from terrible pain. Once the doctor arrived, he entered into an argument with him for being late.

The altercation turned physical after the doctor slapped the patient. He then picked up a wooden stick and began thrashing the man, chasing him through the hospital. All this happened while other patients and security staff looked on, reports added.

Though the security staff tried to intervene, the doctor continued with his assault. The patient managed to escape before he approached the police to file a complaint.

The incident soon snowballed into a major issue, following which the relatives of the patients staged a protest. Cops intervened to pacify the irate protesters, promising legal action against the doctor.

An investigation was launched and the doctor reportedly told officers that he attacked the man to defend himself.

A similar incident was reported in California in 2018 after a doctor was caught mocking and cursing a patient who was suffering from an anxiety attack. Dr. Beth Keegstra, a contract doctor with El Camino Hospital in Los Gatos, was suspended after she was caught on camera questioning whether 20-year-old Samuel Bardwell was sick or just looking for drugs, as per reports.
