Doctor Kills Ex-Wife, Keeps Her 'Alive' On Social Media To Mislead Police
A doctor, from the city of Gorakhpur in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, allegedly killed his ex-wife and kept her "alive" for months to mislead police. Dr. Dharmendra Pratap Singh, a well-known surgeon in the town, allegedly pushed his ex-wife off a cliff at Pokhara in Nepal in June this year.
According to local reports, he gained access to his ex-wife Rakhi Srivastava's social media account and kept posting several messages to show that she was in Assam. An investigation was launched into Rakhi's disappearance after her family filed a police complaint.
Rakhi's second husband, Manish Sinha, was taken into custody for questioning as her family suspected him of being involved. However, police later started investigating Rakhi's first husband and his two associates, Pramod Kumar Singh and Deshdeepak Nishad, local newspaper, the Times of India reported Sunday.
During investigation, it was revealed that Rakhi went to Nepal with Manish on June 1. While Manish returned, Rakhi stayed back. Police visited Pokhara where they found the woman's body.
Rakhi's first husband confessed to killing her, saying she was blackmailing him for money and property.
"Dr Singh and his two aides went to Nepal and took Rakhi out, where they offered her a sedative-laced drink and pushed her off a cliff in Pokhra," Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) IG Amitabh Yash said."However, even after killing Rakhi, they kept updating her social media account through her mobile phone."
According to reports, Rakhi first met the doctor in 2006 when she took her father to him for treatment. The duo got close to each other and they secretly married in 2011. The doctor bought Rakhi a house in the city and they continued their relationship despite the doctor being already married to someone else.
However, they split when Dr. Singh's wife, Usha, came to know about the illicit relationship. Rakhi then married Manish in February 2016, but she continued to be in touch with Dr. Singh and allegedly started blackmailing him for property, the Times of India reported.
