‘Doctor Who’ Season 9 Spoilers: Who Will Replace Clara Oswald? Jenna Coleman Knows ‘Absolutely Nothing’ About New Companion
Jenna Coleman, just like the rest of the world, is being kept in the dark about who will replace her on BBC's "Doctor Who." The 29-year-old actress announced last week she was vacating her long-running role as the Time Lord's (Peter Capaldi) companion, Clara Oswald.
In the days since Coleman's shocking announcement, fans have been wondering who will take over the role but it appears the science fiction series isn't ready to reveal a replacement. When asked by Entertainment Weekly if she knew who was stepping in her shoes once she makes her exit on "Doctor Who," Coleman responded: "I know nothing, absolutely nothing." She added, "Once you're out, you’re out!"
Even though Coleman said she doesn't know anything about her replacement, there have been a few rumors on who could take over. According to The Mirror, fans betting on the gaming site Ladbrokes want "Game Of Thrones" star Rose Leslie, who plays Ygritte, to step in as the new companion.
Other names on Ladbrokes' list are Karen Gillan, who plays Amy Pond on "Doctor Who," Jessica Brown Findlay ("Downton Abbey"), Natalie Dormer ("Game Of Thrones"), Kelly Brook ("Piranha 3D") and even Kim Kardashian. Fans apparently also want to see Maisie Williams, who landed a mysterious role on Season 9 of the BBC series, land the role of the companion.
According to Unreality TV, the betting site also claims fans want to see English actress Michelle Keegan (ITV's "Coronation Street") travel through space with the Doctor. "Michelle is just what the Doctor ordered," a rep for Ladbrokes told the site. "As far as the odds are concerned, she’ll be entering the TARDIS sooner rather than later as his assistant.”
As previously reported, Coleman, who's leaving to focus on her role as Queen Victoria in ITV's new drama series, said during an interview with Britain's Radio 1 Breakfast show that she already filmed her final scene for the show.
"It's been in the works for a very long time," she said, "[Writer] Steven [Moffat] and I sat down a year and a half ago and tried to work out the best place to do it and tell a really good story. "We're not going to give any details but it will happen at some point this season... We worked out a really good story arc out so hopefully people will love.”
